For so many years in web development I have been watching with interest where the UI design is heading to and how it is evolving. These days it looks that the hardware limitations have been overcome – the CPUs are getting faster and faster, the video cards are getting some crazy FPS even in heavy graphic applications, the memory and storage capacity has jumped hundreds of times compared to what we had 10yrs ago, monitors and device displays are getting bigger and with better resolution, and finally touch displays are becoming common….So now when hardware so powerful that you can only struggle when using some really complex software, for UI designers sky is the limit.
Apple have already proven to be very innovative with their OS interface for years, and now recently they just “exploded” with iPhone – in my opinion one not that great device when it comes to what it hides inside and especially as a phone…but who can beat this crazy good interface. A lot of cell-phone manufacturers got awaken by Apple when they saw iPhone, but to be honest, no one can still beat the very well designed UI of it.
So yesterday my friend showed me the video for this experimental device which is a development of a future electronic publications interface. Its strictly optimized for this purpose but still it looks like so far its my winner for the UI of the future interaction with the electronic devices for reading and entertainment.
